An Arizona woman went viral after claiming she discovered shards of glass in ground beef she purchased from Walmart. The woman named Lexi Bowe, known as @lexi_flyer66, posted a video about the allegations on TikTok where it received more than 1.6 million views and 4,600 comments. The video can be found here. Walmart faced similar accusations in January 2020 after a Colorado man alleged he discovered shards of glass when he was making hamburgers with his son. The man claimed the ground beef was purchased at Walmart and that when he called he was given more meat and some coupons. This January, a beef supplier sold in Walmart was forced to recall more than 14 tons of ground beef over E.coli fears. Walmart also faced controversy in December 2021 after viral videos claimed that chicken sold at the stores was contaminated. All meat that is transported around the United States must be federally inspected by the U. S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). But with over 3 billion pounds of beef being transported annually, oversight is possible. In the now-viral TikTok, Bowe said she discovered shards of glass inside ground beef that was purchased on October 16 at a Walmart located in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.”Please stay safe and double-check your meat during preparation, this could’ve been so dangerous!” the caption of the video read. The video starts with a hand grabbing the ground beef out of a mixing bowl and feeling it with their fingers. After a few seconds, Rowe shows what appears to be a small piece of glass mixed with the meat. She said she discovered several pieces of glass after looking at the meat further.”What if my family swallowed these?” the on-screen text read after she showed several various sized pieces of what she alleged was glass. In follow-up videos, Bowe said she was able to return the ground beef and received a full refund. She added that she had several calls with Walmart’s corporate office and her local health department. A Walmart spokesperson told Newsweek they are currently investigating the claims with their supplier.”We are committed to providing safe, high-quality food for our customers and expect that same commitment from our suppliers,” the statement read. “We appreciate Ms. Bowe alerting us to her experience and have issued her a full refund. We take this seriously, and while no other customers have raised similar concerns, we are investigating this with our supplier.”Bowe said in another video that Interstate Meat Distributors contacted her directly and asked her to send in the glass for them to investigate. She also said they offered her free ground beef vouchers.”I’m more than likely not going to be using them because, you know, don’t want other objects in my ground beef,” Bowe said. Thousands of users commented on the video, many offering advice to Bowe.”Omg so happy you guys caught it before consuming,” one user commented.”That’s why I pay a little more for grass feed beef,
